There was good and bad news for Arsenal with regards to Thomas Partey on Saturday.
The good news is that the former Atletico Madrid powerhouse was spotted training at the Gunners’ base in London Colney, having been injured in recent weeks.
But the bad news is that he was training individually.
Arsenal are set to host Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium today and the North Londoners’ statement about team news claimed that Partey was being ‘assessed’ ahead of the clash.
Here’s how fans reacted on Twitter to the uncertainty regarding his fitness:
Mikel Arteta would be wise to leave Partey out of the squad.
The Arsenal midfielder has been dogged by injuries since arriving from Spain in a £45 million deal back in October.
And with Arteta’s side clashing with Benfica again on Thursday, it’s a silly risk.
Arsenal’s best chance of playing Champions League football next season is by winning the Europa League and risking Partey today, when he’s more needed against the Portuguese side next week, is completely pointless.
