Speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol has been discussing Tyler Adams after he joined Leeds United from RB Leipzig.
Leeds have looked towards Adams as their Kalvin Phillips replacement, and while there is plenty of excitement around this signing in west Yorkshire, Nicol has a word of warning for the Whites.
Indeed, the Liverpool legend has questioned whether or not Adams is good enough to play in the Premier League after struggling in Germany, and he states that it could be very tough for the American at Leeds.

Nicol questioned Adams.
“I think so, the fact he couldn’t get a regular game last season would suggest that. The question is, is he good enough for the Bundesliga? And the answer would have to be, considering the games he played, the answer would have to be no. So what part of that means that he’s capable of playing regularly in the Premier League. That might seem harsh, he’s not kicked a ball yet, but on the face of it, it’s going to be tough for him,” Nicol said.
Different ball game
Unfortunately for Adams, Nicol is right, the Premier League is a different best and if you’re struggling in the Bundesliga you may not cut it in England.
Some of the best players in Germany haven’t cut the mustard in England, just look at the likes of Jadon Sancho, Timo Werner, Naby Keita and Leon Bailey in recent years.
The aforementioned players were bona fide Bundesliga stars, while Adams was barely a fringe player at Leipzig.
Of course, there are also players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Heung-Min Son who have been brilliant in the Premier League after arriving from Germany, but the overall trend doesn’t fill us with confidence.
It’s not unreasonable to suggest that Adams could struggle at Leeds.
