When Leeds United winger Hadi Sacko came off the bench to score against Burnley in the EFL Cup last month, it seemed the erratic winger may have reached a turning point in his Elland Road career.

Until that moment, the Frenchman had rarely been seen under Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen, and prior to his arrival Sacko has been hit-and-miss to say the least.

Still, the composure with which he took his goal against Burnley and his performance in extra-time suggested Leeds could still use him as they pushed for promotion this season. But could the 23-year-old already have made his most telling contribution to the club’s campaign?

After all, since that goal-scoring outing the Leeds winger was left out of the match day squad against Ipswich Town, left to sit on the bench against Cardiff City and featured for only 28 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday with his team already 2-0 down and ultimately losing by three.

There is plenty of football still to be played, but such is the strength in depth at Leeds now that it is hard to see Sacko getting many opportunities to start.

His performance against Burnley could have been the catalyst for bigger and better things, but the fact that Christiansen overlooked him completely for the very next match speaks volumes.

It will take more than a single strike, even against a Premier League team, to change the trajectory of his Leeds fate.
