Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in signing both Ben Woodburn and Umar Sadiq this summer.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

With centre-backs Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic now through the door, most Rangers fans would surely argue that the area of the squad that Steven Gerrard must now address is up front.

Alfredo Morelos enjoyed a promising first season at Ibrox, but the youngster did endure look periods without a goal at times and did not get the support from the other forwards in the squad so it is little surprise that Gerrard is keen to add further depth up top.

The Scottish Sun has recently reported that a loan move for Umar Sadiq is close to being agreed, while the Daily Express suggested last month that Ben Woodburn is also on Gerrard’s radar.

If the Gers sign both men on loan for the coming campaign, it does not necessarily mean that the pair will be the last strikers to arrive through the door, but it does hint that signing more goalscorers will fall down Gerrard’s list of priorities especially as neither Roma or Liverpool may be best pleased if their youngsters are not featuring regularly for the Scottish Premiership giants.

So perhaps it would be fair to suggest that just going into next season with Morelos being supported by Sadiq and Woodburn would be a significant gamble for Rangers, especially with Kenny Miller no longer at the club and questions being asked about Eduardo Herrera’s future.

All three are extremely talented. Morelos was lethal at times last season, and Woodburn has already shown for club and country that he is capable of causing all sorts of problems. Like Woodburn, Sadiq is an unproven talent who has shown flashes of class during his brief career.

But it cannot be overlooked that the trio would have a combined age of just 61, with Morelos the oldest of the three. That lack of experience means that putting the trio together could be a risk for Gerrard.

But if he does bring the pair of targets in and helps all three start to realise their potential, it could prove to be an absolute masterstroke given that none will have arrived at Ibrox for big money and clearly have the talent to take the league by storm next year and give the Gers an incredible platform to build from next summer.
