Harry Forrester has been omitted from Rangers squad to face FK Shkupi.

Steven Gerrard’s first competitive squad has reportedly been named as he prepares his Rangers squad for Thursday’s Europa League qualifying clash against Macedonian side FK Shkupi – but could he be making his first Gers mistake?

STV claim new signings Umar Sadiq and Lassana Coulibaly have been included after being signed in time to be scheduled for Gerrard’s first competitive fixture in the world of management.

But first-teamers Fabio Cardoso, Eduardo Herrera and Lee Wallace have been left out of the squad, as has playmaker Harry Forrester despite his impressive loan spell with AFC Wimbledon.

Forrester, 27, had a hand in 11 goals during a season-long loan with the English League One side, scoring three himself and turning provider a huge eight times as Wimbledon survived relegation.

The former Doncaster Rovers ace returned to Ibrox this summer but was left out of the Spain training camp, and has now been left out of the squad to face FK Shkupi – despite hardly being given a real go in the top flight of Scottish football.

Forrester has shown he is capable of scoring and creating in the Scottish Premiership, scoring three and creating two in 21 league appearances for Rangers – 14 of which were from the bench.

Reigniting his form with Wimbledon, Forrester is more than deserving of another chance to show he is capable of impressing under Gerrard but it seems as though he is unlikely to be given that chance.

Offering versatility out wide and in the number 10 role, Forrester could be an important asset but letting him rot in the reserves could be Gerrard’s first mistake as Rangers boss.
