Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Burnley’s George Boyd.

Aston Villa reportedly targeting George Boyd (print version of the Daily Mirror), was surely one of the most inevitable transfer moves of the summer.

Villa boss Steve Bruce managed Boyd when they were both at Hull City together, earlier in their careers.

Bruce raved about Boyd during his time at Hull, and when he eventually did sell the Scotland international to Burnley, he said to the Daily Star: “George Boyd is someone I was tempted to keep. He is such a great lad, a great pro and easy to manage. It was the little things with George.

“He’s a wonderful lad. If your daughter came home with him, you would be delighted. He is such a great lad and a really good person.”

With Boyd now potentially available in the summer, it is hardly a surprise to see Villa interested.

Boyd’s contract expires in the summer, and Bruce clearly trusts the 31-year-old midfielder.

Boyd would add energy and creativity to Villa’s midfield options, as they aim for promotion next season.

The claret and blues have badly disappointed so far this term, and look destined to finish in mid table.

Boyd, meanwhile, has played a key role for Burnley – with Sean Dyche’s side currently sitting clear of the drop zone in the Premier League.
