Celtic were linked with Lasse Vigen Christensen in the summer but Brondby signed the Danish midfielder from Fulham instead.

Celtic’s reported interest in Lasse Vigen Christensen raised a few eyebrows in the summer. The Mail claimed that the Scottish Champions were interested in Fulham’s Danish midfielder – but there was little reason to believe he could be the second coming of Moussa Dembele.

Unlike the prolific Frenchman, Christensen had failed to force his way into Fulham’s first-team plans. In fact, he even spent the second half of the Championship season on loan at relegation threatened Burton Albion.

There won’t have been too much concern on the green half of Glasgow, then, when Christensen instead left Fulham to return to his homeland with Brondby in July.

Though Scandinavian air appears to have done good things for Christensen, once one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in English football. Because the former Denmark Under-21 ace scored four times in his first two Superliga games for Brondby, including a hat-trick off the bench in a 5-3 win against Lyngby.

Christensen was named the league’s Player of the Month for September. And while the 23-year-old hasn’t scored since, and has started just six of his 13 games for Brondby, he is proving himself to be a versatile and intelligent addition to the squad.

Capable of playing in midfield or on either flank, the versatile Dane is the sort of player every team could do with – and that includes a Celtic side who attempting to stay in Europe after Christmas while fighting on three domestic fronts.

Intelligent, tactically astute and with a new-look eye-for-goal, the Christiansen of Brondby suddenly looks like a player that could be useful to Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead.
