Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is said to a massive fan of Everton’s James McCarthy.
According to the Telegraph, Everton are unhappy with James McCarthy for aggravating an injury on international duty.
McCarthy claimed he was fit to play for Ireland, but then tweaked a hamstring injury in training.
Ronald Koeman is said to be frustrated with the central midfielder, who has struggled with injury throughout the campaign.
And earlier this month, Koeman suggested that McCarthy just wasn’t fit enough to play for Everton.
“We’re disappointed, first for the player himself, and also for us as he is not regular player because his fitness over a long time is not 100%,” Koeman said.
“We must understand that maybe his fitness level [isn’t at the required level] and that we need to do something different maybe.”
Koeman’s latest frustration with McCarthy, could push the 26-year-old closer to the exit door at Goodison Park.
And if McCarthy is available, Newcastle United may well return to try and sign the combative midfielder.
Newcastle attempted to bring McCarthy to St. James’ Park in the January transfer window, but they were unsuccessful, despite making a £16m bid (Daily Mail).
Rafael Benitez was said to be a huge fan of McCarthy by the Chronicle, and it would not be a surprise of the Magpies did make a repeat bid, now that the Irish international’s future at Everton appears to be very uncertain.
