Emilio Izaguirre had a bit of a shocker for Celtic on Boxing Day.

If you were to stick a proverbial fork into Emilio Izaguirre’s Celtic career, it might well be done.

The 32-year-old re-signed for Celtic last summer but it seems unlikely that he’ll play many more games, for a number of reasons.

Firstly, Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers hooked him at half-time in the 4-3 win over Aberdeen on Boxing Day after a horrendous first 45 minutes at Pittodrie.

Then Rodgers left him out of the squad entirely for Saturday’s Old Firm defeat at Rangers, which added to the doubt.

And more recently, Calvin Miller, also a left-back, has returned to Celtic after his loan at Dundee was cancelled today.

It remains to be seen if Dundee cancelled it or whether Rodgers recalled him, but either way it’s not all that promising for Izaguirre, who earns £21,000 per week in Glasgow [Daily Star].

The Honduras international is already miles behind Kieran Tierney in the pecking order, but Rodgers has played wingers and midfielders – Jonny Hayes and Callum McGregor – at left-back in recent games to avoid picking Izaguirre.

And now with Miller back on the scene for now, it’s very hard to see Izaguirre being heavily involved for Celtic during the second half of the campaign.
