The Aston Villa player looks to have made the position his own if recent selections are anything to go by.

Aston Villa have a lot of right-backs, but on recent evidence it seems their manager Steve Bruce has made a somewhat controversial decision when it comes to his first choice option in that role.
Despite having Alan Hutton, James Bree and Ritchie De Laet to chose from, Villa have opted for summer signing Ahmed Elmohamady whose defensive nous – or lack of – has prompted plenty of shudders from the Villa Park faithful already this season.

The Egypt international is a Bruce favourite, with the two men working together at Hull City prior to their respective moves, and it is clear the Villa boss has faith in the 30-year-old.
But should he?
While Bree has had a shaky start to the campaign, looking woefully out of sorts against Brentford earlier this month, Hutton and De Laet are too far more experienced options who know how to defend.

Elmohamady certainly has an attacking prowess the above trio lack, as his brilliant cross for Villa’s third goal against Barnsley proved. But it is still worrying that a player whose defensive record is questionable at best can usurp three out-and-out right-backs at a club craving consistency.
Time will tell if it is the right decision, with Villa needing to build on their latest win and push up the table sooner rather than later.
