It’s no secret that Granit Xhaka hasn’t been Mr Popular among Arsenal fans over the past five years.
But some supporters of the North London club are stunned by a new report about the Swiss midfielder’s price tag.
According to Blick in Switzerland, Arsenal could finalise a sale of Xhaka to Roma before his country’s Euro 2020 campaign begins on June 12.
But the report added that Xhaka could leave North London for a fee of only £15.4 million [€18 million] plus potential bonuses.
Given that he joined Arsenal for £35 million in 2016, it’s one hell of a drop in price-tag and suffice to say that the fans aren’t chuffed about it.
Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
Huge hit
There’s no denying that Xhaka hasn’t been a roaring success at the Emirates Stadium – and particularly not among the fanbase.
But there’s also denying that £15 million up front would be an awful piece of business for a player who has been a mainstay under Arsenal’s last three managers – Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery and Arsene Wenger.
He clearly has some value on the field and a £20 million hit on the club’s original investment does seem rather colossal when all things considered, he hasn’t been that bad.
