The West Ham United defender has been blighted by injury in recent years.
When West Ham United signed Doneil Henry from Apollon Limassol back in 2015 it was hoped the Canadian would become a future first-team star, but three years on the 24-year-old has featured just once for the Hammers.
A brief loan spell in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers allowed the centre-back to get used to English football but an ill-fated appearance in West Ham’s Europa League defeat to Astra Giurgiu the following season proved be his one and only outing for the club thus far.
After that, Henry was consigned to the under-23s, only named on West Ham’s bench for a four-match spell in late February and early March, with a hernia problem cutting short a second stint at Blackburn.
Last season, a temporary move to AC Horsens in Norway went no better, his first appearance delayed by a knee injury before a ruptured ligament cut the loan short after only four appearances.
With Henry continuing his recovery from that injury, and with his West Ham contract expiring in 2018, there is a distinct chance the defender will be heading out of the club without getting the chance to prove his worth.
West Ham’s defensive problems in recent years meant that, had he been fit, Henry may have got the opportunity to shine.
Instead his is a story of regret and bad luck, and only a huge change of fortune will see his West Ham career rescued at the death.
