Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County are the three Championship sides keen to offer Ben Marshall an escape from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It appears that Wolverhampton Wanderers have still not decided what they want to do with Ben Marshall in the January transfer window.
The Express and Star claims that the Championship promotion favourites are willing to listen to offers for a player who has started just one league game all season – and the Daily Star (13th December, page 48) states that Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday are keen to offer him an escape route.
Derby County are also keen, per The Sun (26th November, page 69). The Rams are flying high and looking a good bet for the top six right now but Marshall’s unpredictability and eye for the spectacular could add an extra dimension to Gary Rowett’s workmanlike squad.
Yet, the Express and Star adds that manager Nuno Espirito Santo is considering the effect that injuries and suspensions could have on his squad – meaning Marshall could be a valuable squad member during the hectic fixture schedule after the turn of the year.
And the Midlands-based paper has also claimed that Wolves are on the lookout for a new right-wing back in January to provide support for the in-form Matt Doherty. But with the adaptable Marshall waiting in the wings, perhaps the answer is right under Nuno’s nose.
The former Blackburn and Leicester wideman is a hugely adaptable player who has shown in frequent occasions since moving to Molineux at the start of 2017 that he is more than capable of filling in at right-back when required.
And a place on the flanks in Nuno’s preferred wing-back system could suit Marshall down to the ground – allowing him to provide natural width while getting the best out of his crossing abilities.
So maybe Wolves do not need their wealthy Chinese owners to dig deep into their pockets again in January. Marshall could come in handy after all.
