Rangers defender Lee Hodson was left on the bench on Tuesday night.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty decided to play Andy Halliday at left-back against St. Johnstone on Tuesday night, as the Light Blues convincingly beat Tommy Wright’s side 4-1 at McDiarmid Park.
Goals from James Tavernier, Josh Windass, Sean Goss and Alfredo Morelos saw the Gers earn a fifth consecutive win in all competitions, as they closed the gap between themselves and rivals Celtic to just six points.
However, Murty’s decision to pick Halliday at left-back was a surprising one after Wales international Declan John was ruled out of the clash with a groin injury – with doubts surrounding John over his availability against Celtic.

Halliday, who returned from a disappointing loan with Azerbaijani side FK Gabala in January, is naturally a central midfielder but Murty chose to start him on the left side of defence.
Surely, then, 5ft 7in defender Lee Hodson will be wondering what future he has at Rangers after being left on the bench by Murty for a player who is better used in the middle of the park?
Northern Ireland international Hodson has proven time and time again that he can play on either side of defence, both with Rangers and former side MK Dons. But now the 26-year-old could be considering his future at Ibrox.

John remains first-choice on the left side of defence, but with Halliday now supposedly ahead of Hodson in the left-back pecking order and Lee Wallace set to return, his chances of game time have dramatically reduced.
Tavernier captained the Gers and scored his seventh goal of the season and Hodson simply stands no chance of usurping the former Newcastle defender.
With his contract set to expire in May 2019, Hodson needs to seriously consider his future in Glasgow ahead of the summer transfer window.
