Newcastle United ace was on loan at Sunderland last season.
DeAndre Yedlin at Sunderland
After a difficult start at Sunderland last season, DeAndre Yedlin ended the campaign playing an important role in their Premier League survival.
Sunderland’s secured safety at the expense of rivals Newcastle United, who dropped down into the Championship.
Yet in the summer Yedlin elected to leave Tottenham to join Newcastle on a permanent basis, despite ESPN reporting in August that Sunderland were keen on bringing him back to the Stadium of Light.
As we reach March, Yedlin’s decision looks like it may have been a smart one, and could be about to really pay off.
Sunderland have struggled again this season, and currently sit bottom of the league.
Newcastle meanwhile are top of the Championship, and Yedlin is playing a key role.
This was a scenario which always seemed possible at the start of the campaign, with Sunderland behind the curve from day one after a poor transfer window and Sam Allardyce’s departure in mid-July.
Newcastle United’s DeAndre Yedlin in action
Yedlin looks likely to be a Premier League player next season, while had he stayed at Sunderland he would be bracing himself for the depressing reality of relegation.
The mood at the two clubs could not be more different, and it will be tough for Sunderland to bounce straight back.
Despite missing out on a year of Premier League football this season, it is hard to believe Yedlin in any way regrets his choice to sign with Newcastle.
