The Newcastle United right-back is impressing this season.

While it took a while for Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin to prove his worth, the right-back’s recent performance suggest he is finally set to fulfil his potential at St. James’ Park, potentially following in the footsteps of a famous Magpies defender of the past.
Warren Barton’s defensive nous sometimes came under fire, but his ability to bomb up and down the flank quickly made him a Newcastle fan favourite and the Magpies could now have his heir apparent in the form of Yedlin.

The USA international first came to the attention of Premier League clubs at the 2014 World Cup but, as we approach the 2018 incarnation of that tournament, he has failed to hit the heights many expected following his initial move to Tottenham Hotspur.
More recently Yedlin has featured for Sunderland and now Newcastle and it is at St. James’ Park where he has really found his feet.

The 24-year-old’s recent performance against Liverpool proved just how far he has come and he also did well against Southampton, even if Newcastle shipped two goals when they really should have won.
Barton ended up with 164 appearances for Newcastle over seven years and Yedlin will be hoping to do the same at the first club he has been able to call home for quite some time.
