Dany Klaassen was one of Everton’s first big money buys this summer.

Ronald Koeman has told the Liverpool Echo that Davy Klaassen may have to compete for the number 10 position at Everton, and that could spell bad news for the Dutchman’s starting chances.

Klaassen was brought to Everton from Ajax, and is widely expected to have a key role to play.

However, competition is fierce at Goodison Park, and Koeman has already stated that Klaassen could face a fight for his place in Everton’s team.

Koeman has suggested that Klaassen will be vying for a place on the left or right prong in midfield, if Everton play a 4-3-3 formation, or fighting for the number 10 position if they line-up in a 4-2-3-1.

“If we play a holding midfielder, Davy must focus on getting place in left or right midfield,” Koeman said.

“And if we play an attacking midfielder, he may also vie for the No.10 place.”

While Klaassen will surely fancy his chances of breaking into Everton’s team as a central midfielder, his chances of playing as a number 10 look much more slim.

Everton have already brought in Wayne Rooney, and Gylfi Sigurdsson is also expected to arrive from Swansea City in the near future, as per the Daily Mail.

And if Sigurdsson does move to Everton, Klaassen’s place in Everton’s starting line-up may already be under a significant amount of threat.
