The Tottenham defender has impressed since his summer switch from Ajax.
Some players, especially those that are still developing, can find it difficult to adapt to the Premier League, but Davinson Sanchez of Tottenham Hotspur doesn’t fall into that category.
The centre-back, a club record signing from Ajax for £42 million in the summer transfer window, has slotted in to the Tottenham defence with ease and has produced some outstanding performances.
This week Sanchez was included amongst the nominees for the UEFA team of the year, with only two other Premier League defenders – Benjamin Mendy of Manchester City and Antonio Valencia of Manchester United – under consideration.
Sanchez’s nomination is certainly owing largely to his exploits for Ajax last season, whom he helped to reach the final of the Europa League, where they lost to United.
However, the 21-year-old certainly deserves plaudits for the contribution he has made so far for Tottenham, for whom he has been especially effective in a back three.
Composed in possession, a fine reader of the game and strong physically, there is much to admire about Sanchez’s game and he still has much time to improve even further.
Even at this stage in his development Sanchez can be seen as one of the leading defenders in the Premier League, especially when his form so far this season is taken into consideration.
It is now up to the Colombian to continue to perform consistently and reach new heights.
