The Chelsea defender has now denied he criticised Lampard for not following orders, which is almost just as well, because surely Luiz is the last person to be lecturing on discipline.
We mentioned in an article yesterday that David Luiz is every inch the flamboyant, sterotypical Brazilian defender, who looks like he could play in almost any other position on the pitch.
It was odd to hear him criticise Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s ‘Mr Consistent’, for not following the orders of his manager.
He might be right, after all we don’t see what goes on behind the closed doors of the Chelsea dressing room.
Lampard may have been acting like a spoiled teenager in recent weeks, convinced he knows better than the manager who is just one year older than him. This would be out of our sight, because we haven’t seen it.
But surely Luiz of all people is the last who should be insinuating such messages about a lack of discipline. And that we do see, on the pitch.
Luiz is the defender who for all his qualities, struggles to form a tight unit with his fellow defenders, an art Chelsea was once renowned for under Jose Mourinho.
His charges up the pitch might come off once in a while, but more often that not they leave his teammates exposed, and the defence open.
Are those orders from his manager? We doubt it.
The criticism of Lampard, which Luiz denies of course, may have been more credible coming from say Petr Cech, but from Luiz it sounds a tad hypocritical.
