Glasgow Rangers started their league campaign with a victory but one player got praise and stick in equal measure.

Rangers brought a lot of players to Ibrox over the summer as they sought to give manager Pedro Caixinha a squad capable of beating Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title this season.

Some of those men have settled in immediately and look like playing a vital role, such as Bruno Alves and Sunday’s two-goal hero Graham Dorrans, while others will take some time to settle, with Dalcio coming to mind.

But one player could be about to divide opinion among Gers fans more than most in the form of Daniel Candeias.

The 29-year-old played the whole match against Motherwell on the right wing and some Rangers fans felt he worked his heart out from kick-off to the final whistle.

His defensive work prompted plenty of debate, with his effort not in question but the end result vastly different depending on who you asked, with his tendency to back out of 50/50s prompting some consternation.

In contrast, his attacking play came in for criticism from a number of supporters, with many questioning his crossing ability and some feeling he was all effort and no end product.

It is early days, and there is no doubt the new Rangers winger refused to hide on his league debut. The question is, will he build on his first outing and add goals and assists to his game or will he build up a sweat without ever really affecting the game where it counts?

Only time will tell, but you can rest assured Rangers fans will be debating long into the night whether or not Candeias actually had a good game.
