Yesterday, Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez took to Twitter to announce the tragic death of their newborn son.
The pair were expecting twins, and wrote in a statement that only the birth of their baby girl has given them the strength to deal with this loss.
It is a truly tragic time for Ronaldo, and it has provoked many questions from concerned Manchester United supporters.
Now, one of them has been answered.
Is Cristiano Ronaldo playing tonight?
Well, Manchester United have announced that Ronaldo will play no part in tonight’s meeting with Liverpool at Anfield.
The Red Devils said in a statement: “Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time. As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family’s request for privacy.”

It is unclear when the Portugal international will return to action for Manchester United.
Given the severity of the situation, and Ronaldo’s request for privacy, it’s possible that the 37-year-old will also miss the upcoming games against Arsenal and Chelsea.
Given his otherworldly talent, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will obviously be a huge miss for Manchester United, but he must be given as much time off as he needs to process this awful situation.
Liverpool fans plan Cristiano Ronaldo tribute
It’s not often that Liverpool fans will plan something nice for a Manchester United player, but this situation is bigger than football.

According to the Mirror, there will be a minute’s applause at Anfield in the seventh minute for Ronaldo, after the death of his son.
It’s pleasing to see rivalries put aside amid this delicate time, and hopefully, the applause is respected by all on Merseyside tonight.
