Is combination of success and no signings going to backfire for Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur need a fast start this season, but will they get one?

Tottenham Hotspur players starred at the World Cup, to the immense pride of supporters.

There were more Spurs players in the semi-finals than of any other club, and Hugo Lloris returns to the club as a World Cup winner.

With less than a month before the Premier League season starts, the downside for the player’s success could become apparent for Spurs over the opening few months of the season.

Tottenham need a fast start if they are to compete with Manchester City, and they are not in a position to get one, as it stands.

Even if Spurs’ players battle through the fatigue in August, their summer exploits will likely catch up with them later down the line.

This would be manageable, if Spurs had several new signings on board, to add competition for places and lighten the load on their World Cup stars.

Instead, Tottenham are one of the only clubs in the Premier League not to make a single signing so far.

It is an entirely predictable scenario, with Spurs known for their laid back approach to the transfer market.

Some years they have got away with it, this time the perfect storm of failing to sign anbody, and World Cup success, could combine to really damage their prospects.

It is not too late to sign players, but any incomings will already have missed the start of Mauricio Pochettino’s notoriously demanding pre-season.

Spurs fans can’t be blamed for feeling their club has already missed an opportunity, and worrying that another season of near misses awaits.
