Tottenham star netted twice at international level over the weekend.

Five years ago Tottenham sold Gareth Bale for a world record £86 million and their subsequent spending was scrutinised.

The general perception was that Spurs wasted most of the money, spending big on Roberto Soldado.

Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Vlad Chiriches were all gone within two seasons.

Erik Lamela is one of two players who remain at Spurs out of seven who they signed, but Christian Eriksen is the real star.

Eriksen is undroppable in Tottenham’s team and over the last 18 months his international exploits have seen his reputation rise further.

The attacking midfielder scored for Denmark twice last night to inspire a 2-0 victory over Wales.

His record at international level is quite astonishing.

Eriksen has scored 14 goals in his last 18 games for Denmark, which included a strike at this summer’s World Cup.

While Tottenham had mixed success with most of their post-Bale signings, Eriksen is making up for it single handedly.

He was one of the cheaper additions at just £13 million.

Now he is worth more than the £86 million Spurs received for Bale.

Football London reported earlier this summer that the CIES Football Observatory estimate Eriksen to be worth £93 million.

Add on a ‘Daniel Levy tax’ with the Tottenham chairman a shrewd negotiator, and it is fair to say any club trying to buy Eriksen would have to break the bank.
