Is Celtic’s Jozo Simunovic ever going to be worth £7 million again after disastrous run of form?

Plenty of Celtic players have improved under Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead, but there are some who look to be getting worse.

Mikael Lustig might be a prime example of this after another dreadful performance in Sunday’s 2-0 win at Aberdeen, earning himself a red card to enhance the feeling that he might well be past it.

Another player who has come in for plenty of criticism from Celtic fans is Jozo Simunovic and you wonder if his value is only going to get lower and lower.

According to The Daily Mail in January, the Hoops’ centre-back was worth around £7 million but surely Rodgers has no chance of getting that figure if he plans to offload the Croatia Under-21 international this summer.

Since that report, Simunovic has made a catalogue of errors. Some have been costly, while some he got away with, like he did at Pittodrie this past weekend.

The 23-year-old had shown worrying signs of regression back in December, most notably during the 4-0 demolition by Hearts at Tynecastle, and you wonder whether Rodgers should have taken that £7 million if it was ever on the table because, going by recent form, it’s as high a price-tag as he’ll ever command.
