The Tottenham defender has been loaned out to Sheffield United this year, after struggling to make a first team impression last season.

Tottenham Hotspur have been famed in the last couple of years for keeping their talented young players in and around their first team squad, rather than sending them out on loan for first-team experience.
But that seems to have changed with teenage defender Cameron Carter-Vickers joining midfielder Josh Onomah in signing a new contract and then heading out to the Championship on loan, when he sealed a season-long switch to Sheffield United.

The duo, alongside Harry Winks, Kyle Walker-Peters and Marcus Edwards, have been held up as stars in the making, with Mauricio Pochettino keeping his talents involved on the fringes of the match day 18 rather than giving them first team football down the leagues.
The Argentine’s approach was in stark contrast to just before his reign, when the likes of Harry Kane, Andros Townsend, Ryan Mason, Steven Caulker and Jake Livermore, as well as Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, went out on lots of temporary moves to gain experience. All returned to Spurs to win England caps.
The fact Onomah – who impressed during the U20 World Cup win this summer – and Carter-Vickers have been allowed to leave for the season is proof that Pochettino has adopted a different tactic this season. And it could mean that there are several signings to come in to fill their roles in the squad.
Additionally, though Winks certainly benefitted from working with the Spurs first team, Onomah and Carter-Vickers may well return to the club with much more to contribute than before they left, much like Kane et al.
