Carter-Vickers did feature in pre-season, but it was telling that Mauricio Pochettino decided not to keep him around, even with no players signed.
Carter-Vickers headed on loan to Swansea City, his third Championship loan.
Instead of proving Pochettino wrong, Carter-Vickers sees his Tottenham dream slipping away.
The USA international has barely featured for Swansea this season, making just two Championship starts.
He has a further two appearances off the bench, and it’s not enough.
Last season he played regularly for Sheffield United and then Ipswich Town and Swansea don’t appear to rate him as highly.
Meanwhile at Tottenham, Juan Foyth has broken through and looks like a star, and further January additions could be incoming amid Toby Alderweireld’s uncertain future.
Carter-Vickers needs a big turnaround in fortunes if he is to ever establish himself as Tottenham regular.
