Having only scored one goal since joining the club in the summer, is Caleb Ekuban really the answer to Leeds’ attacking woes?
22-year-old striker Caleb Ekuban has played just 175 minutes since joining Leeds United in the summer, but with a solid performance and 80 minutes against Barnsley last weekend under his belt, could he prove to be the answer to Leeds’ attacking problems?
Ekuban made a promising start to life at Elland Road, notching a goal and an assist on his debut against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup, but an injury in August ruled the former Chievo Verona man out for three months before his return against Middlesbrough.
Unfortunately for boss Thomas Christiansen, Ekuban is yet to replicate the goalscoring form which saw him net 17 times in 34 games in the Albanian top flight last season for Partizani Tirana.
However, the striker showed plenty of positive signs against Barnsley, with his pace and movement causing Liam Lindsay and Angus MacDonald plenty of problems.
Whilst Ekuban doesn’t have the pedigree of Pierre-Michel Lasogga, he has the build and talent to cause problems at Championship level and with more game time set to come over the coming weeks, he could just stake a claim as Leeds’ first choice striker before January rolls around.
