Is Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce planning to replace Mile Jedinak, amid reported interest in Isaac Hayden?

If rumours are believed, Aston Villa want to sign defensive midfielder Isaac Hayden on loan this summer.

The Mirror reported on Friday that Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce and Stoke City were interested in the want-away Newcastle United ace, who submitted a transfer request earlier in the window.

Magpies boss Rafael Benitez has played down the prospect of him leaving, but if Bruce really does want him then he must be having doubts about Mile Jedinak.

Jedinak, a £4 million signing [Fox Sports] from Crystal Palace in 2016, has lost his midfield place this season it seems, with John McGinn and Birkir Bjarnason impressing so far.

Bruce played the veteran Villa star in central defence in last weekend’s win over Wigan, but it was an afternoon to forget for the 34-year-old and he’s unlikely to get many more chances in that role.

But if Aston Villa sign Hayden – who earns £22k-a-week in the North East [Spotrac] – then you have to assume that it’d be a clear indication from Bruce that he also has no use for the Australia international in midfield either.

Jedinak has been a good servant for the Villans over the past two seasons, but would Hayden be a big nail in his coffin at Villa Park? Probably.
