
It’s probably safe to say that Shkodran Mustafi isn’t the most popular player among Arsenal fans.
In fact he might even be the least popular and that’s pretty much been the case for most of his four-and-a-half years in North London.
So when the Germany international was being linked with a move away from Arsenal this month, naturally some supporters were secretly – and openly – pleased.
But according to head coach Mikel Arteta, the centre-back might not be going anywhere.
Arsenal have already loaned out William Saliba this month and with Sokratis Papastathopoulos leaving on a permanent basis too, Arteta doesn’t want to leave the Gunners short on centre-back options.
Here’s what the Spaniard said: “His future right now is here. I’m trying to help. We have Papa that probably is going to leave the club in this window, William that has already gone on loan, so we don’t have that many right now.”
And suffice to say that some Arsenal fans aren’t all that pleased with Arteta’s plan to keep Mustafi for another six months, until his contract expires.
