Steven Gerrard has seemingly promoted youngster Andy Dallas into the Rangers first-team, after scoring frequently for Graeme Murty’s Under-23 side – but that can only be bad news for one of Gerrard’s summer signing.

Dallas, 19, is one of Rangers’ most impressive talents at Ibrox, starring alongside the likes of Serge Atakayi, Lewis Mayo, Stephen Kelly and Kyle Bradley in the Gers’ second string.

He was pictured on Rangers’ Instagram page alongside Borna Barisic and Ovie Ejaria in training ahead of Thursday night’s Group G Europa League clash against Spartak Moscow.

Dallas’ form for the second string is likely to impress in training at Auchenhowie, but there are only three spaces in Rangers squad for a striker. Alfredo Morelos, Kyle Lafferty and Umar Sadiq currently occupy those positions.

But AS Roma loanee Sadiq has managed just 26 minutes of first-team action spread across three substitute appearances, and rumours suggest that he could be returning to the Italian side in the January transfer window.

So, if Dallas does continue his meteoric rise, could Rangers striker Sadiq’s spell at Ibrox come to an end? It is unlikely that, after the signing of Lafferty, 21-year-old Sadiq has little chance of breaking into the side.

Making an impression in training could see Dallas tempt Gerrard into giving him a chance in the side, especially with Scottish Cup games on the horizon. But if Dallas catches Gerrard’s eye, Sadiq’s future at Rangers is in more doubt.
