It has been an extremely disappointing start to the season for West Ham United striker Andy Carroll.

While West Ham have shown some much more encouraging signs under David Moyes, there are still a couple of players within the Irons squad who need to step their game up if they hope to contribute and help the side preserve their Premier League status for another year.
Perhaps no player needs to step their game up more in the new year than Andy Carroll – who has endured a largely miserable first half of the campaign for the Hammers.

The 28-year-old has always been a largely frustrating figure for the West Ham fans. On his day, he seems to be almost unplayable and appears to have the ability to give defenders an unlimited amount of nightmares.
But the Hammers are still awaiting one of those displays this term. The closest he came to that kind of performance came back in September when Huddersfield came to the London Stadium and he looked hugely impressive in the 2-0 win.

However, his current statistics now read eight appearances in the Premier League, no goals and no assists. And his discipline has seen him let the side down, with three yellow cards, and a red card in the draw with Burnley.
A number of players who had been written off have stepped their games up since Moyes arrived earlier in the season. If Carroll could follow suit, the Hammers will surely be in with a fantastic chance of keeping themselves away from a relegation battle during the second half of the season.
