The prospect of Spurs deciding to announce a new deal for Sissoko would have been met with derision and possibly anger in recent seasons.
Now it would generate a positive, welcoming response.
Sissoko is almost midway through his five-year deal at the club, which expires in summer 2021.
Tottenham like to extend their player’s contracts early, recently evidenced by Dele Alli signing a renewal until 2023.
Sissoko is 29 and Tottenham will not want to tie him down into his mid-30s, but they will want to protect their investment and avoid losing him on a free transfer when his deal expires.
If they can push this further down the track and extend his deal by a couple of seasons, it would make a lot of sense.
