Glasgow Rangers midfielder Josh Windass has been linked with a move away from Ibrox, but perhaps his teammate would be a better option.

According to a report from the Daily Record last week, Leeds are keeping a keen eye on Rangers winger Josh Windass as Thomas Christiansen looks to bolster his options to help keep the Whites in the promotion picture.

Windass has enjoyed an excellent season so far, scoring six times in the Scottish Premiership and is really starting to show why the Gers worked so hard to bring him to Ibrox in the first place – so it is little surprise that other teams are monitoring him.

The 24-year-old is certainly a gifted player and he may well be able to contribute to Leeds’ squad if a move did take place, but surely it should be one of his teammates that Christiansen should be looking at first and foremost.

Alfredo Morelos has proved to be a brilliant signing for the Light Blues. The Colombian currently tops the Scottish Premiership’s goalscoring charts, with 10 league goals coming in his first six months at Ibrox.

Meanwhile, Leeds’ strikers have all struggled at stages throughout the season. Kemar Roofe has been the most impressive and is their top goalscorer, while Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Caleb Ekuban have enjoyed bright points – with the German sensational in Saturday’s game against Millwall – but none have really stamped their authority on the role.

Leeds fans would be forgiven for wanting an experienced Championship striker as they look to ensure that they capitalise on their current position and maintain a place in the play-off race right until the end of the season.

But gambling on Morelos – though Rangers have reportedly slapped a hefty asking price on the forward (via Evening Times) so Leeds would need to do some serious negotiating – instead of focusing their energy on Windass may prove an inspired move given how quickly that the 21-year-old has adapted to life at Rangers.

He has shown that he knows where the back of the net is and is at an age where he should only get significantly better – which, admittedly, is probably a statement that many Leeds fans are tired of hearing after a window that has largely focused on signings for the future so far – so perhaps the striker should be the Rangers player that the Whites focus on rather than Windass.
