Adam Forshaw was one of Leeds United’s best players during the second-half of last season, but suffered an injury in pre-season.

When the wheels were rapidly coming off Leeds’ season during the second-half of last term, it was becoming more and more difficult for the supporters to see which players already at the club were going to be able to potentially inspire a promotion push once the slate was wiped clean.
However, one player who the fans had a lot of faith in as the campaign concluded was Adam Forshaw. Signed for £4.5 million in January – fee reported by BBC Sport – the central midfielder often looked considerably more impressive than a number of his teammates during the handful of appearances that he made last term, and it seemed almost inevitable that Marcelo Bielsa would identify the 26-year-old as a key man following his appointment as head coach.
But given Leeds’ start to the season, perhaps it would be fair to suggest that Forshaw may be about to find himself in a position that few would have seen coming just a few months ago.
The midfielder picked up an injury in pre-season, and that seemed to open the door for Mateusz Klich to get a chance in the middle of the park alongside Kalvin Phillips. And to say that Klich has grabbed the opportunity emphatically would probably be an understatement.

The Poland international has been superb in the opening two games of the new Championship season, scoring against both Stoke City and Derby County. His goal against the Rams at the weekend was superb and set the tone for a sensational win at Pride Park.
Klich’s form makes it seems incredibly difficult to see how Forshaw is going to force his way back into the side when he is back fit, and so, perhaps there is every chance that Forshaw is going to find himself closer to the periphery of the squad over the coming months.
Given how last season ended, that is a role that few could have imagined Forshaw having at Elland Road.
