Tottenham tried to sign Saido Berahino from West Brom two years ago.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Daniel Levy has earned himself a reputation as one of the shrewdest chairmen in football.
He has had his share of misses, the Moussa Sissoko deal did not look too good until a fortnight ago, while Roberto Soldado was a big bust.
But perhaps Levy’s luckiest escape came with regards to Saido Berahino.
Spurs were desperate to sign Berahino in 2015, submitting multiple offers for the West Bromwich Albion striker.

The Mail reported Spurs offered £25 million cash up front to sign Berahino, a fee the Baggies rejected.
Looking back, this was an error by West Brom not to take the money, although they could not have foreseen the fall off Berahino would suffer.
He sulked after missing out on the move to Spurs, and eventually moved to Stoke City last season.

Berahino though has not had the impact at the Potters he would have wanted.
He is still searching for his first goal, and missed a penalty against Southampton at the weekend as his frustrating spell continued.
At under-21 level, Berahino partnered Harry Kane up front for England.
Now the pair could not be further apart in terms of their development, with the Spurs striker touted as one of the world’s best and starring in the Champions League, Berahino is battling to prove he simply belongs at Premier League level.
Had he moved to Spurs, it could have been very different for him, but as it stands, Daniel Levy will be very pleased that West Brom turned down their big money bid.
