Josh Onomah’s chances at Tottenham have been particularly limited this campaign.

Harry Winks and Josh Onomah were both handed their first team debuts by Mauricio Pochettino last season, but only one has made the step up as a regular.

Winks has become a popular and important member of the first team squad, while Onomah is stuck treading water in under-23 football.

Part of this is his own fault. In first team chances he has looked hesitant, far from the dynamic player he is at youth level, and he was slammed by fans for his disappointing performance in the EFL Cup loss to Liverpool in October, despite scoring in the previous round.

He has started only one game since, the FA Cup win over Wycombe, with Pochettino reluctant to use him in Premier League matches.

Onomah is not helped by the presence of Moussa Sissoko, signed in a terrible £30 million deal on transfer deadline day.

Sissoko has been played out on the wing, a position where he does not look comfortable, where Onomah could benefit from a chance to flourish.

With Erik Lamela having missed the majority of the season due to injury, this could have been Onomah’s chance to establish himself.
