Sardar Azmoun scored for the second week in a row today – but Andre Villas-Boas had the last laugh.
At the tail end of last month Arsenal were being linked with a move for Rubin Kazan playmaker Sardar Azmoun – or as he is better known, the ‘Iranian Messi’.
The former Sepahan starlet moved to Russia in 2013 after impressing for the Iranian youth teams – he has scored seven goals in six Under-17 appearances and 19 in 17 games for the Under-20s.
The 19-year-old was being linked with the Gunners in The Metro last month – with a reported bid of £2 million being readied for the talented teenager.
Last weekend he hit the back of the net against FK Rostov with a lovely finish – taking a touch, turning and poking away a strike with his right foot.
And he has been at it again – this time putting the ball beyond a team managed by a former Spurs boss.
He scored against Andre Villas-Boas’ Zenit St Petersburg side today – his strike making the score 2-1 in the 64th minute…
Unfortunately it only seemed to rile their opposition.
Zenit went on to score four more goals in a stunning 6-2 win for AVB’s men.
A good day for Azmoun on a personal basis, but for his team … not the best day at the office.
