Ipswich Town’s Tom Lawrence should be given the chance at Leicester City, should Riyad Mahrez leave the club in the summer.

Tom Lawrence has been a pivotal player for Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich this season, with his late equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley the latest in a growing list of game salvaging goals.

The 23-year-old Leicester loanee has scored 11 goals and assisted eight in all competitions in this season, five more than any other Ipswich player on both counts.

Following a number of unsuccessful loan spells at the likes of Reading, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City, Lawrence has finally found his feet at Ipswich.

His impressive form has led to interest being shown by Newcastle, Sunderland, Burnley, Derby, Norwich and Cardiff, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Reports by the Express claim Leicester have yet to make a decision on the future of the forward, having not contacted him regarding his future at the club.

However, if Riyad Mahrez were to leave Leicester at the end of the season, with recent links to Barcelona by The Sun continuing to make his future uncertain, it could pave the way for Lawrence to state his case for Craig Shakespeare’s side.

His pace and skill on the ball would be a threat in any league and could play perfectly into the counter attacking style of football that took the Foxes to the Premier League title last season, as well as a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

If Lawrence can continue to carry his brilliant form through to the end of the season, then a chance to showcase his ability on the Premier League stage could, and perhaps should, await him.
