We catch up with Ipswich Town’s 2005 FA Youth Cup winning side.

In 2005, Ipswich Town’s under-18s defeated a Southampton side featuring Adam Lallana, Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale to claim the FA Youth Cup trophy.

12 years later, let’s find out what happened to this promising young team:

Midfielder Liam Trotter is hoping to win promotion from League One with Bolton Wanderers. The 28-year-old had a four year spell with Millwall before signing with the Trotters in 2014. He has made 20 appearances for Phil Parkinson’s side this season, scoring in the wins over AFC Wimbledon and Walsall.

Trotter is joined in League One by MK Dons midfielder Ed Upson, who has been a regular in their starting-eleven since arriving from Millwall in the summer.

Sammy Moore is part of a Leyton Orient side in turmoil at the bottom of League Two. The former AFC Wimbledon spent the first half of the campaign on-loan to National League outfit Dover Athletic before returning Orient in January. Moore also runs the M&M Football Academy which runs coaching sessions in Kent.

He was competing with fellow FA Youth Cup winner Owen Garvan in League Two until a few days ago. The 29-year-old, who spent five years with Crystal Palace, left Colchester United by mutual consent on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Shane Supple is back in football after retiring from the game at the age of 22. Supple took a five year break before taking his talents to the Irish Premier Division with Bohemian.

Chris Casement plays for Northern Ireland top-tier side Linfield. The centre-back has featured 21 times for the title-chasing Blues.

Following his release from the Tractor Boys in 2006, winger Liam Craig has enjoyed a ten-year stint in Scottish football. He bagged his 50th league goal for St Johnstone against Inverness Caledonian Thistle back in December.

Andy Reynolds, Stuart Ainsley, Danny Haynes and Charlie Sheringham are among the former Ipswich youngsters to be plying their trade in non-league football.

Reynolds is assistant manager for Ryman Premier League strugglers AFC Sudbury. He is also listed as a first-team goalkeeper on their official website.

Haynes stars for Ryman League Division One South team Cray Wanderers. The forward, who has featured for ten teams since leaving Ipswich in 2009, broke Cray’s consecutive game scoring record (10) earlier this season. He recently played in their 1-4 defeat to Hastings United.

Sheringham, the son of the former Manchester United and West Ham United forward, is on-loan at Hemel Hempstead Town from Ebbsfleet United. Likewise, defender Stuart Ainsley turns out for Eastern Counties League club Felixstowe and Walton United.

Darryl Knights is in his third spell with Kidderminster Harriers. The 28-year-old also works as a personal trainer for Workout at Home.

He isn’t the only member of the FA Youth Cup team to have taken this path. Michael Synnott ended his playing career with Dunalk in 2009 and now works as a personal trainer for Fitness First in Sydney, Australia.

James Krause hung up his playing boots to pursue a career as an analyst. The former Crawley Town man was appointed Arsenal’s Head of Academy Analysis back in September of 2015.

Meanwhile, Cathal Lordan left Cork City in 2012 to pursue further education University College Cork.
