Mick McCarthy is unsure whether he will have the funds to sign the Frenchman.
Ipswich Town’s Toumani Diagouraga (L) in action against Wolves’ Dave Edwards
Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has admitted he may not sign Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga on a permanent deal this summer, despite a successful loan spell.
Diagouraga joined Ipswich in January and has performed well for the club, featuring 12 times for the club before his loan spell ended a week short because of injury.
But McCarthy admitted to the East Anglia Daily Times that his squad may not be able to accommodate the Leeds midfielder on a permanent basis:
“He does a similar job to Skusey (Cole Skuse) in sitting.
“He might pass forwards a bit more than Skusey, but Skusey does that water carrying role that every team needs.
“I’ve got to be careful what I do because of the size of the squad and the budget I’m going to have – and I’m not quite certain on that yet.”

The French midfielder was initially signed by Steve Evans last season but fell out of favour quickly with new manager Garry Monk. The new Leeds boss completed deals for Liam Bridcutt and Eunan O’Kane in the summer whilst also placing his faith in youngsters Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips.
Diagouraga even told the EADT earlier in the year that he saw no future at Elland Road.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Much may depend on the future of Monk, who is yet to discuss an extension to his deal with Leeds United which expires this summer, amid links with rival Championship side Norwich City and takeover rumours at Elland Road.
But ‘Toums’ may be struggling to find somewhere to play regular football next season.
