Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann claims that his experiment of playing Arsenal’s Kai Havertz as a left back is now ‘over’ ahead of Euro 2024.
Arsenal fans are laser-focused on winning the Premier League title this season having missed out last term.
There is a major international tournament on the horizon though with Euro 2024 coming at the end of the campaign.
A host of Arsenal players will be involved, no doubt dreaming of securing international honours off the back of a Premier League title.
Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka will be key players for England but there will be pressure on Kai Havertz to shine with host nation Germany…
Julian Nagelsmann confirms stance on Arsenal ace Kai Havertz
Germany have seriously struggled of late and have turned to Julian Nagelsmann to lead them into Euro 2024.
Nagelsmann lost two friendlies in November, falling to Turkey and Austria as Germany’s Euro 2024 preparations seem less than ideal.
Nagelsmann made one surprise decision, deploying Arsenal ace Havertz as a left back.
We have seen Havertz utilised in a host of roles over the years but left back isn’t one of them.
Havertz started with a goal against Turkey but did give away a penalty in that game too, so it was a real mixed bag.
Nagelsmann has now told ZDF – as quoted by Mia San Mia – that the experiment with Havertz is ‘over’.

Nagelsmann felt that Havertz played well in two games at left back, so it wasn’t a complete ‘failure’, but it won’t be happening again.
“Yes, it’s over. Although it wasn’t a failure. He played two very good games,” said Nagelsmann.
Germany may need to turn to David Raum at left back ahead of Euro 2024 with Havertz surely poised to play further forward now.
The debate over Havertz’s best position continues having been used in different roles at both Arsenal and Chelsea.
Havertz featured as a number 10, right-sided midfielder and as a striker at Chelsea but is now playing as an attack-minded number eight for Arsenal.
Havertz’s versatility meant Nagelsmann wanted to try him at left back but we won’t be seeing that at Euro 2024 as Germany go in a different direction.
