Wales’ interim manager Rob Page has credited Tottenham and Jose Mourinho for helping Gareth Bale fall back in love with football ahead of his team’s clash with the Republic of Ireland.
It was well documented that Bale was becoming increasingly disillusioned with the game during his final days at Real Madrid, pulling stunts such as pretending to fall asleep on the bench and holding a banner that said he prioritises golf over playing for La Blaugrana.
Fortunately, it seems as though a move back to Tottenham has seen the Welshman get back on the right track, and Page has certainly noticed an attitude change with the 85-cap star.
“He’s first through the doors, loves being part of it and he has a spring in his step when he comes on camp and that’s exactly what I’ve seen in the last couple of days.” Page said (via The Sun)
“Now being at a place like Tottenham where he has a manager [Mourinho] that wants him there and wants him to play week in, week out, or they are building him up to that where he plays 90 minutes consistently.
“We’ve now got a player on our hands that has fallen back in love with the game and is enjoying his football. Hopefully we will reap the rewards of that as well.”
It’s great to hear that Bale is finally back enjoying football.
Nobody is going to flourish when they’re being forced to do something they don’t enjoy, and we all want to see Bale at his best.
Whether you’re a Spurs fan or not, any football supporter has to admit that there are few finer sights in the game than the Welshman at the top of his game.
Luckily, it seems as though being back in familiar surroundings under a manager who recognises his talents has re-ignited his love of the game.
