Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur and their recent links to James Maddison.
The Leicester City midfielder has emerged as a reported target for Spurs in recent days, and, as you can imagine, these rumours have sent the fanbase into a bit of a frenzy.
However, unfortunately, people within the club are playing down the chances of Maddison actually joining Tottenham this summer.
Indeed, according to Gold, he asked a few people about Maddison during Spurs’ pre-season tour, and everyone said that there wasn’t much to these reports.
What’s been said?
Gold spoke about what he’s heard from within Spurs about Maddison.
“Lots of people have been asking about James Maddison. Interestingly, Spurs are really playing that down. Anyone we asked out on the tour really played that down, they said no nothing is happening there. I’d say on that one, it’s a difficult one. I said earlier this summer that I knew he was on their long list of potential attacking midfielders in recent years, they like him. Only two years left on his contract as well,” Gold said.
“I’d say at the moment, don’t get too excited, but add in the massive caveat, and I’m going against what Spurs are saying. I think that if he were to become available I think that Spurs would make a move.”

Still a chance
People within Spurs are playing this rumour down, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no chance of this transfer happening.
As Gold says, you shouldn’t get too excited, but if a deal is there to be done, it wouldn’t be surprising if Tottenham went in for the Leicester City star.
Yes, Spurs are playing this down, but would this be the first time a football club have played their cards close to their chest in a transfer saga? Of course it wouldn’t.
As the saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire, and there has certainly been plenty of fire when it comes to Maddison and Tottenham.
