Speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel, David Ornstein has shared how Arsenal are feeling heading into the summer transfer window.

The Gunners’ financial situation is a little bit up in the air at the moment. They have no idea if they’ll be playing European football next season, therefore, they’re unsure about whether or not they’ll receive the hefty windfall that comes with Champions League qualification.

However, Ornstein claims that Arsenal don’t believe that the club don’t think that qualifying for Europe  will change their transfer plans too much.

“Now to the crucial area of recruitment, it’s my understanding that Edu, in conjunction with Mikel Arteta, are pretty clear on their plans in the summer transfer market, and they’ve already submitted those to the Arsenal board of directors, of course, there are still loads of variables after that, they need to get into negotiations with clubs and players,” Ornstein said.

“We also need to see what will happen in terms of their European campaign. Will they be in the Champions League, the Europa League, European conference or no European football at all? Interestingly, From the Arsenal perspective, they don’t think their European status will have too much of a bearing on what they want to do, and that may hint that the Kroenkes could help in the transfer market.”

This is certainly an interesting update.

Ornstein knows his stuff when it comes to Arsenal and their transfer plans, so you have to take his word for this.

It’s hard to imagine that the Gunners’ transfer plans won’t be affected by their European status, unless the Kroenkes uncharacteristically decide to invest some of their own money.

Perhaps the recent protests have opened up the owners’ eyes in terms of their lack of investment over the years.

Time will only tell what the Gunners do this summer, but it sounds as though it could be an exciting window at the Emirates.
