Jamie Carragher has admitted to being puzzled over the early substitution made during Liverpool’s draw at Fulham this evening.

The Reds missed the chance to move top of the Premier League table after being held to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

With Tottenham drawing at Crystal Palace by the same scoreline, a victory here would’ve put Liverpool two points ahead of Spurs, who they bring to Anfield on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp brought Joel Matip off at half-time and replaced him with Takumi Minamino, after the champions went into the break one goal down.

And Carragher has admitted that it seems such a ‘strange swap’ for him.

Carragher said live on Sky Sports, in the 48th minute of the match: “It will be interesting to know what has happened to Matip. It seems a strange swap to me.”

A Mo Salah penalty on 79 minutes brought Liverpool level but despite huffing and puffing, the visitors couldn’t find a winner.

More importantly, it’ll be interesting to see if Matip is injured or whether it was tactical by Klopp.

The Cameroon international has a pretty terrible injury history and with Liverpool already having Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out, this isn’t ideal for Klopp – especially with Tottenham on the horizon.
