Aston Villa fans have reacted on Twitter to Dean Smith labelling the club’s new signing Leon Bailey as a ‘striker’.

The Midlands outfit confirmed on their official website on Wednesday morning that they have signed the Bayer Leverkusen speedster until 2025.

Villa fans haven’t heard much from Smith since they returned from pre-season, but his comments about their new signing were of interest to them.

Smith labelled the Jamaica international as a ‘hugely exciting’ player, but also added that he is a ‘young striker’, as Villa posted on Twitter.

Whilst the 23-year-old has played as a forward before, he has mainly played on the flanks and Villa fans are now questioning how they will use the player.

There is a lot of talk going around that Villa are going in for Tammy Abraham to bulk up their forward areas, so it’s going to be interesting to see how Bailey is used during this forthcoming season if the Chelsea man joins.

Bailey has played his best and worked his magic when he is out in the wide areas and then chopping inside.

But with the impending departure of Jack Grealish, Villa need to eek out every bit of quality from their players in the attacking third next season.

There will be huge pressure on Bailey from the off because he is stepping up a level by moving from Germany’s top-tier to play in a more robust, physically demanding and fast-paced English Premier League.

Either way, Smith might just spring a few tactical surprises here and there it seems.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Smith’s comments on Bailey.
