According to Luca Serafini (via Inter News), Jose Mourinho allowed Christian Eriksen to leave Tottenham because he felt the midfielder was on a downward slope.
Mourinho’s feeling is proving to be an accurate one.
The Inter Milan playmaker – who Antonio Conte paid £16.9 million for – is struggling at the San Siro, and has recently been linked with an exit.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport recently revealed that the Denmark international could be involved in a swap deal with Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.
Eriksen has only scored four goals in 33 games for Inter Milan since joining the Serie A side in January. In that time, the 28-year-old also has just three assists to his name.
The Dane is yet to score or assist in seven appearances this season.
He also only registered four goal involvements in 20 Premier League appearances in his final season at Tottenham.
The report involving him and Xhaka states that Inter Milan aren’t too keen on keeping Eriksen around, and that’s no surprise given his recent ineffectiveness for both Spurs and Conte’s side.
Nearing his thirties, the former Ajax man could be starting his decline as a footballer judging by his form this year, proving that Mourinho might’ve been right about his former player.
