Tony Cascarino has backed Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur to sign Leicester City star James Maddison this summer.

The 2023 summer transfer window will officially open on Wednesday and Tottenham are expected to be one of many teams that will be busy.

For Cascarino, he labelled James Maddison as a ‘terrific footballer’, who is ‘very talented’ and how he could see him ‘fitting in’ at Spurs, as he told talkSPORT.

All eyes will be on who will be Ange Postecoglou’s first signing. There are suggestions that it could be Brentford goalkeeper, David Raya.

Either way, if they get him over the line, and Maddison, then it would be a serious statement of intent from the club.

And Cascarino shared his thoughts on how Maddison’s role had grown at Leicester over the years, as a move to north London could now be on the cards.

“Yes, I can see him fitting in at Spurs,” said Cascarino. “He is a terrific footballer. He has a good goal ratio for an attacking midfielder. It’s about 1 in 3.

“He has been at Leicester for about five years and done really well. He has had his moments. They had Vardy. The main guy. The talisman and the guy that always got the goals. And he did that role brilliantly.

“Certainly over this season, Maddison emerged as the biggest threat Leicester had, especially as Vardy, what now 36. I do think he is a talented player. The problem you have with someone like Maddison is fitting them in. Where do you play him?

“Yes, he can fill that Eriksen role. I do wonder how they are going to do it. If they lose Kane, I initially thought Richarlison would be, if Kane left, that guy down the middle. It will be interesting to see what he will be like (next season). It will be a very interesting prospect for Tottenham and James Maddison is a very talented lad.”

With a lot of talk around Harry Kane’s future, he will need to stay at Spurs if they want to land the top talents.

Both Maddison and Kane would do wonders together, but surely, if you get vibes that he is going to leave, then why would you want to join yourself?

The other issue facing Daniel Levy and Co. is interest from other parties, it’s claimed that Newcastle are leading the race for Maddison.
