Crystal Palace have joined West Ham United in the race to sign Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy, the Ligue 1 club’s president Bernard Joannin has told But Football Club.

While interest from the Hammers is nothing new, given that talks over a move to the London Stadium have been being going on ever since January (Sky), this is the first time Palace have been linked with a rangy French forward.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson has made no secret of his desire to bring a new number nine to Selhurst Park this summer – and Guirassy might just be the man to solve a problem position.

The former Cologne youngster scored nine Ligue 1 goals in 2019/20.

Not a remarkable tally by any means but, considering that Amiens were relegated from the French top-flight this season, it is tempting to wonder how much better his numbers would be in a stable Crystal Palace side with Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend providing ammunition from out wide.

Rennes have been heavily linked with Guirassy in recent weeks.

However, as Joannin points out, Amiens could get far more money by selling their top scorer to a club on the other side of the Channel.

“I can’t tell you right now (where he is going), we’ll have to ask Serhou what he wants to do,” says Joannin, who believes he could earn up to £18 million for the striker’s sale.

“In addition to the French interest, we can also add Crystal Palace and West Ham.

“Currently, the most interesting offers are those from England but we do not want to get in the way of Serhou’s career. It is up to Serhou’s advisers to see which is the best option.”

With 2019/20 proving to be another campaign of misses and misery for Christian Benteke, Guirassy should be confident of securing a place in Hodgson’s starting XI at Crystal Palace.
