Chris Sutton has stated that Thierry Henry possibly replacing Mikel Arteta at Arsenal is an ‘interesting one’, as he told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
The former Blackburn striker did point out that things didn’t go well for the Arsenal legend in his previous job in the MLS.
Henry, 44, is currently assistant to Roberto Martinez at Belgium – he returned to that post after managing Montreal Impact, he was also the Monaco manager, before that, for a brief period.
Either job didn’t work out for the Premier League legend, but given that he has hero status in North London, his name will always been mentioned with the Arsenal job.
And with Arteta under pressure, one Arsenal fan rang up 606 wanting Henry to replace the Spaniard and this is what Sutton had to say:
“Just on Henry, he’s assistant at Belgium, he went back to Belgium, didn’t he?” said Sutton. “He went out on his own in Canada, Montreal where things didn’t go that well.
“Ole was caretaker at first then he proved himself. I think that’s an interesting one.
“If you look at Henry’s managerial career up till now, if you look at Arteta, who was assistant at Manchester City, has Arteta been given enough time?
“Just because Henry was a club legend does that necessarily guarantee that he will go in and do a brilliant job? Now, I am not saying he won’t go in and do a brilliant job. But does it guarantee that?”
Perhaps some would look towards Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – and Old Trafford legend – and how he has helped Manchester United get back on their feet.
Solskjaer had troubles during his stint at Cardiff and was in his home country of Norway managing Molde when Man United came knocking.
That caretaker spell soon turned to a permanent role, and despite Henry’s previous struggles in management, perhaps, he could go down the same road as Solskjaer if he was handed the reigns at the Emirates.
Either way, it does seem as though the clock is ticking for Arteta and he is just another bad run away from being handed his P45.
